Memorial Day Part 2

On Monday we went to Lake Texoma to do some hiking. Who knew it was so beautiful? The trail was super shaded so even in the heat we were able to stay somewhat cool. My kids love to do anything outside especially exploring under every nook and cranny and that they did. We hiked about 4 miles and roasted hot dogs and made smores. We were completely filthy by the end of our little trek, but it was a lot of fun. I would even do it again.

Memorial Day (Weekend) Part 1

We spent all day in Gilmer on Saturday with Cary's family for a reunion. It was super hot, but the kids had so much fun and it was good to see family we have not seen in a long time.

Kate rode a horse for the very first time. I am not sure who the little girl she is riding with...a distant relative, but Aunt B took good care of her and led the way. Kate was thrilled!
Braeden drove golf carts all day long over acres and acres of land. He thinks he is an expert driver now.

Braeden and cousin, Jenna

This picture was taken after a long, hot day. We were all tired, very dirty, and I am sure we all stunk at this point, but we had to get the whole family together for one last pic.

Walk like an Egyptian

Does this picture make you crack up or what? Today was Egyptian day for Braeden's Social Studies class. We made this little outfit in a couple hours even though Braeden knew about this project for months. When we got it completed and he put it on I could not help but laugh so hard I was almost crying. He is a good sport though. He knew how ridiculous he looked and laughed right along with me.

It was also Texan day at Kate and Joshua's school. They didn't go as far out as Braeden had to in their choice of clothes. They each wore a bandanna and a sheriffs star and that was good enough for them. They had super cool activities planned at the school.....one of which was an authentic tee pee complete with Native American story tellers.

Your Happily Ever After

I just read this message this morning and WOW.... I loved it. Here is an excerpt:

Isn’t it remarkable to know that our eternal Heavenly Father knows you, hears you, watches over you, and loves you with an infinite love? In fact, His love for you is so great that He has granted you this earthly life as a precious gift of “once upon a time,” complete with your own true story of adventure, trial, and opportunities for greatness, nobility, courage, and love. And, most glorious of all, He offers you a gift beyond price and comprehension. Heavenly Father offers to you the greatest gift of all—eternal life—and the opportunity and infinite blessing of your own “happily ever after.” - President Dieter F. Uctdorf

Have you seen these things?

I was introduced to these jellylike bracelets on Friday when Braeden got home from school. One of his friends had given him one. Then on Friday night we went to the Mall to get Kate's ears pierced and there was a Kiosk with lines ridiculously long with people waiting to buy these things. And again on Saturday Kate went to a birthday party and she got some of them in her goodie bag. And now every where I turn I see kids with wrists full of them. They kind of remind me of the jelly bracelets I would wear as a kid, but these are a little cooler because they come in all kinds of shapes. Animals, cars, dollar signs, the sun, the moon, the stars...you name it. Apparently you can also get them at Walgreens or CVS. My kids have been begging me to take them. I haven't given in....yet.

Sparkly Ears

She did it...Kate got her ears pierced on Friday night. She was so excited and a little bit nervous but not one tear was shed. She was so brave and she absolutely loves her new earrings.

Troop 623

For Den Meeting this week we took a little field trip to the Little Elm trails and picked up trash. I was surprised at how little trash there was to pick up and very impressed with the trails. The boys had a great time trying to see who could find the biggest piece of trash and of course scouting out creepy, crawly things.

I'm #1

So I may not really be #1, but in my kids eyes I am. They along with my hubby always shower me with gifts on Mothers day, but my favorites are usually the homemade kind.

Kate decorated a mug and wrote me a poem that went like this:

My Mom
Lovely, Nicely
Cleaning, Cooking, Driving,
Makes yummy snacks
My Mom

Joshua made me this really nice card that says "I love you to Pieces"

And Braeden bought me a ton of really yummy chocolate and gum. He also made me a sweet card that was quite amusing. This is what it said:
You are one of the best Mom's I know! You are
A for Amazing
B for Brilliant
C for Charming
D for Delightful
E for Excellent
F for Fantastic
G for full of Giggles
H for Have pretty Hair
I for Intelligent
J for Joyful
K for Kicking!
L for Luxurious
M for best Mom ever
N for Never boring
O for On top
P for not Pudgy
Q for Queen like
R for never Rambunctious
S for Super
T for Totally good at cleaning
U for unquestionably pretty
V for very awesome
W for What a Mom
X for Xtremely amazing
Y for You are the best
Z for Zaps you with her prettiness

What more could a mom want? I am Not pudgy and I am Totally good at cleaning and for one day I am #1 and the best mom in the world.....then everything goes back to normal. Ha ha!

4:10pm hurry up, please!

Braeden has athletic try outs today for the next school year and the anticipation is killing me. I think I am more nervous then he is. My stomach is in knots and I think I may have sprouted a new gray hair. Either way, whether he makes it or not, I just want to know how it went. Waiting to find out is torturous!

YIKES!

This seems to be a repeated scene every spring/summer. I found this guy crawling up the outside of one of my living room windows this morning as Jillian Michaels was kicking my butt. I still can't seem to get use to this....ugh! It gives me the shivers thinking there are probably more out there that I never even see. Needless to say, the kids will not be playing in the backyard today.

Yesterday

The weather was perfect yesterday. The sun was shining, the wind was blowing. It was perfect for some outdoor activities.

First up... the kids washed the van or at least tried to. I had to go back over it, but they had fun splashing in the water and making mounds of bubbles.

We then took a walk to the neighborhood pond. I told Kate about this mama duck and her babies and she was dying to see them. They are super cute and they even let us feed them.

When we got home this little baby rabbit was at our front door. My kids were so excited. We love baby rabbits around here. This one was a bit to quick to pet. He hid in our flower beds until the coast was clear.

Today the weather is reminding us of what a good old Texas summer is about. It was a little bit toasty outside. I think we hit 90 degrees for the first time this year. The kids were complaining. I love it. It means it is getting close to summer and time to lay around the pool. I love those days!!

Today Kate also had here first watermelon of the season. She loves watermelon and could probably eat a whole one by herself. I am not exaggerating. She had 5 slices before I cut her off. She is already looking forward to tomorrow.
