No School.....Again

Once again we were awoken by the school district telling us there would be no school today. This time for good reason. It is freezing outside. The windows are covered with a sheet of ice and so is the street in front of our house. The sun is out now and the temperature will be up to 40 degrees this afternoon....but until everything melts we will have another lazy, relaxing day. :)

Where's the Ice??

We were awoken this morning at 6:00a.m. by the school district to tell us that school has been canceled today. So,we went back to bed. I woke up again at 8:30 expecting a frozen tundra outside my window. I was disappointed to find absolutely nothing. The ground is wet but there is no ice. I am guessing school was canceled today not because of what is on the ground right now but because of the impending ice storm headed our way. We will see. All to often the weather people are incorrect. We are thrilled though to have a lazy day. I am thinking we will have a Harry Potter movie marathon and stay in our pajamas all day. I love snow days!!

Another Uneventful Week in the Life of the Jones Family

I guess having an uneventful week is a good thing, but it doesn't make for good blogging. I have decided that during our uneventful weeks and not a blog post to be made I will have a run down of our week on Friday. It may not be interesting but at least I will make some kind of recording for our family history.

Another season of soccer has started. Braeden decided he couldn't live without soccer for another season so we signed him up along with Kate. Braeden had his first practice this week and loved every minute of it. He is on a new team because his old won is no longer playing together. He stands almost a whole head taller then some of the kids on his new team. It will be an interesting season for him. Kate will start soccer practice in about two weeks. She is super excited!! She will be playing for the Hounds, which is such a perfect name for her since she loves dogs sooooooo much!

I didn't watch much of the inauguration this week. It was on every channel all day long so I did see bits and pieces of it. The kids watched it at school. There take on it was that it was very long and boring. Braeden said that it was to "metaphorical" and "how could anyone possibly understand what they were saying"......

Joshua is enjoying cub scouts. He came home after scouts this week and said that they made banana splits. Braeden asked if he ate the banana (Josh does not like bananas), and Joshua said, "no, it was just a split". He must of just had ice cream with chocolate sauce.

Braeden had a lock down at his school yesterday. On Sunday of this week a teenager was found murdered and yesterday they arrested a suspect in a neighborhood right by Braeden's school. The police wanted the school locked down in case there were any problems arresting the suspect. The suspect went without any incident. This murder has been the talk of the town this week. It was the first murder in Little Elm in 3 years. I don't know all the details but drugs were rumored to be involved. I feel like we live in a safe little town so I am not worried....but this was to close to home.

My week consisted of cleaning and chauffeuring kids. I have exercised every day this week.....Yeah!!!..for me! And I tried a new recipe last night, which I probably won't ever make again. I hate when that happens. It seems like we are busy with a lot of stuff but nothing to exciting to report, which again I think is probably a good thing. Happy Weekend!!

So True.....

You know you grew up in the '80's if....
1. You've ever ended a sentence with the word SIKE.
2. You can sing the rap to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and can do theCarlton
3. You know that 'WOAH' comes from Joey on Blossom
4. If you ever watched 'Fraggle Rock'
5. It was actually worth getting up early on a Saturday to watch cartoons.
6. You wore a ponytail on the side of your head.
7. You got super-excited when it was Oregon Trail day in computer class at school.
8. You made your mom buy one of those clips that would hold your shirt in a knot on the side.
9. You played the game 'MASH'(Mansion, Apartment, Shelter, House)
10. You wore stonewashed Jordache jean jackets and were proud of it.
11. You know the profound meaning of ' WAX ON , WAX OFF'
12. You wanted to be a Goonie.
13. You ever wore fluorescent clothing. (Some of us...head-to-toe)
14. You can remember what Michael Jackson looked like before his nose fell off, his cheeks shifted and his nationality became questionable.
15. You have ever pondered why Smurfette was the only female smurf.
16. You took lunch boxes to school...and traded Garbage Pail Kids in the schoolyard.
17. You remember the CRAZE, then the BANNING of slap bracelets.
18. You still get the urge to say 'NOT' after every sentence.
19. You thought your childhood friends would never leave because you exchanged handmade friendship bracelets.
20. You ever owned a pair of Jelly-Shoes.
21. After you saw Pee-Wee's Big Adventure you kept saying 'I know you are, but what am I?' 22. You remember 'I've fallen and I can't get up'
23. You remember going to the skating rink before there were inline skates.
24. You have ever played with a Skip-It.
25. You remember boom boxes and walking around with one on your shoulder like you were all that.
26. You remember watching both Gremlins movies.
27. You thought Doogie Howser/Samantha Micelli was hot.
28. You remember Alf, the lil furry brown alien from Melmac.
29. You remember New Kids on the Block when they were cool... and don't even flinch when people refer to them as 'NKOTB'
30. You knew all the characters names and their life stories on 'Saved By The Bell,' The ORIGINAL class.
31. You know all the words to Bon Jovi - SHOT THROUGH THE HEART.
32. You just sang those words to yourself.
33. You still sing 'We are the World'
34. You tight rolled or french cuffed your jeans. And still debate on which is the right term!
35. You owned a bannana clip.
36. You remember 'Where's the Beef?'
37. You used to (and probably still do) say 'What you talkin' 'bout Willis?'
38. You're still singing shot through the heart in your head, aren't you!

I am definitely a product of the 80's............

Grateful

I went to the temple today while the kids were in school. It is so great that we have a temple so close by. When I was teenager we lived in Oklahoma City and I remember waking up really early in the morning on a Saturday to drive the 3 or 4 hours to attend the temple. It was lots of fun, but I remember thinking that it took forever to get there. I really take the temple for granted and don't go as often as I should. As I was sitting through the temple session today I was reminded of how blessed I am. I don't know why I was thinking about this in this particular session but I am really thankful for all that I have. I am especially grateful for a Heavenly Father who loves us sooooo much!! I know that he knows each of us and is aware of what we need. I really felt the spirit strongly today and I felt an overwhelming feeling of love and I am especially grateful for that!!

Pinewood Derby 2009

Last night was the annual Pinewood Derby for the cub scouts. Everyone at our house was very excited about it because both Braeden and Joshua made cars this year. This was Braeden's last year to compete and Joshua's first.

Braeden and Joshua's cars........ they worked really hard on these with the help of Dad. Joshua's is the Superman car and Braeden's looks like some kind of torture device.

Anxiously awaiting the start of the race.....this year the competition was divided into two categories: the Webeloes and then the rest of the cub scouts. Unfortunately, Braeden and Josh did not compete against each other.
Almost all of the cub scouts and the Scout Master, Brother Ballard.

And the winners are.......Braeden and Joshua Jones!!! They both came in first place and Joshua was awarded "Most Innovative".
Since Braeden and Joshua didn't race against each other they wanted to see who's car would go faster at the end of the night. Superman won!! Joshua was very excited, and Braeden was a very good sport.

It's Friday!!....and more random stuff

Hallelujah!! This week is almost over. Even though the kids only had four days of school this week it seemed like it went on forever. It has been hard getting back into the routine of things since school started. We are all very tired and glad that we have Saturday and Sunday to recover.

The kids got report cards yesterday and they are all doing really well. Braeden and Joshua are both on the A honor roll. Yeah!!...for them! Joshua and Kate both had perfect attendance for the whole semester. Braeden only missed out on this because he missed 6th period because of a dentist appointment. Kate was also named Star student for the semester. I am so proud of them!!

OU and Florida played in their bowl game last night. I am sure that Cary and Braeden are both very happy that OU lost to Florida. Being die hard Longhorn fans they really detest Oklahoma. I don't understand the whole BCS ranking system but I hear that it has been a huge debacle this year. Texas is now ranked #4 and I heard this morning on the radio that a whole lot of Longhorn fans are angry over this....because they beat OU. I say whatever....there is always next season.

I started exercising this week.....again. So far so good. I really feel good when I do it, but I think I get bored to easily with it and I start finding things that I think are more important to do. So then I stop...but not this year!! :)

Pinewood Derby is coming up next week and the boys are excited. Joshua's car looks really cool and Braeden has a really neat design. Joshua, Braeden, and Cary will be busy working away on them this weekend. Stay tuned to see how they each do.........

That is some of my week in review.............

A Really Long Post

We are home from Missouri, the Christmas decorations are down, the kids are back in school, and the Longhorns won their bowl game. The holidays are officially over. We had a wonderful Christmas with family and rang in the New Year with our good friends, the Flores. It is now time to get back into the swing of things but before I do here are a lot of pictures from our holiday extravaganza.....in no particular order......

My Mom's beautiful Christmas tree filled with gifts for all the grandkids

The cousins had so much fun playing together....from air hockey, to Wii, to jumping on the trampline and so much more!!
On Christmas day we played pictionary and sang karaoke. It was so much fun, especially the karaoke. I didn't think I would like it, but we were all singing at the top of our lungs.

Cary and Joshua started to put together this 1,000 piece puzzle. Joshua got bored and left Cary to do it on his own. I jumped in several times but got to frustrated. We never did finish it.

Braeden in his cool new hoodie and shoes. He is so proud of his new shoes that he hasn't worn them until today and he keeps them in the box they came him. He is such a nerd, but we love him anyway!!
We have a tradition to go out to dinner every Christmas Eve. All 18 of us were there....well, minus my Dad who is in Kuwait. We had our own room so that was so nice with all the grand kids. The food wasn't that great but the company was.

Joshua and Grandma's dog, Oscar, just chillin'.

Kate's favorite outfit of all time. I don't know how many times she has worn this thing since she got it. I could not pry the boots off of her feet on Christmas day. Of course, this is what she chose to wear to school today minus the boots because she has PE. She guaranteed me that she would be wearing them tomorrow when she has computers.

Braeden with his prized possession.....his Primary Children's songbook. He only had two things on his Christmas list and this was one of them. The other was slippers.
Me, my mom, and my sister Ashley sipping hot chocolate on Christmas morning.

Kate was so surprised by this gift. She got a gameboy. It was a used one that was her cousins. Kate didn't seem to notice that...which is great. Her favorite game is the Strawberry Shortcake game that came with it.

I love this picture of Joshua. His expression is priceless. We had told him before Christmas that Santa Claus sometimes brings things that we don't necessarily want but need. Joshua is forever getting holes in his pants. He is becoming really expensive to dress. So Santa took this in to consideration and got him some jeans. When Joshua opened up the gift he was so funny.....the picture says it all.

First look at all the Christmas loot...

My Mom and my niece Camille

Opening gifts from Grandma and Grandpa on Christmas Eve

My sister Ashley with the kids. She got the boys gift cards to Walmart and Kate got a poster of the Jonas brothers and some pocket puppies.

My sister Ashley with her boyfriend Clay. On Christmas Eve we called my Dad and this is Clay asking my Dad if he can marry my sister....so sweet!!!

Me and my beautiful sisters.....why is it that I always look like the fat sister??......not fair!!
Well, that is a condensed version of our holidays...I hope everyone had as much fun as we did and is home safe and happy.... (I am having such a problem with blogger and spacing and order...so hopefully you can read through this mess and it makes some sense......)
